Looking for a little Christmas decorating inspiration to help you finish decking the halls this holiday season? Tune in to HGTV’s White House Christmas special this Saturday, December 8 at 8pm ET/PT and snag some ideas from the first family.
Since 1998, HGTV has been offering viewers with a glimpse inside the White House during the holiday season. The annual tradition continues this year as Designer Genevieve Gorder provides a behind-the-scenes look as volunteers and White House staff bring a little holiday cheer to the most prestigious house in the country.
“I think next to the North Pole, this is probably one of the most magical places,” said First Lady Michelle Obama as she discussed the holidays at the White House. “The house comes alive in so many ways and with so many volunteers, and such excellent staff, the transformation happens literally overnight.”
This year’s theme is “Joy to All” and the First Lady will be discussing the power of service, the importance of remembering our troops, and the joys of giving.
The First Lady will also be sharing some of her favorite decorated spaces in the house which includes the Grand Foyer, a room where the featured tree plays tribute to past First Ladies, and the Red Room, a space that is decorated with displays of cranberries and other fresh fruit and is a nod to her commitment to healthy eating.
Don’t miss the iconic 300 pound White House Gingerbread house which sports more than 175 pounds of gingerbread and 50 pounds of chocolate. And of course the First Dog had to be included in the display with a black-and-white pop-pom topiary playing tribute to the beloved family pet Bo.
