Decorating for Easter doesn’t have to be an expensive or daunting task. Interior designer Sabina Vavra shares her tips for creating a beautiful Easter celebration in five easy steps.
- Create a focal point. To create the most visual impact, pick one or two areas to focus on in your home. For example, a great place for an Easter motif is the dining table, the entry console table, or the fire place mantle.
- Pick a stylish color scheme. You don’t always have to be so literal with Easter decorations. For a stylish spin on the traditional Easter décor, try focusing on a color scheme rather than a literal interpretation of Easter. Citron yellow and crisp white, mixed with organic elements such as raw beachwood, branches, and moss make for a stunning tablescape in Easter colors.
- Display Easter eggs. Beautiful glass jars are a great way to display hand-painted Easter eggs. Not only is painting Easter eggs a wonderful family tradition, but it also can be a used as a focal point in the room. Using one large, or three varying sized glass canisters filled with eggs creates the perfect centerpiece.
- Showcase an Easter tree. White Milk jugs can be interpreted into lovely Easter vases. By sticking a few fresh cut branches such as cherry blossoms into any old white milk jug or pitcher, you can create a unique Easter setting. Hanging delicate Easter egg ornaments in coordinating colors will showcase a fun family Easter tree. Throw white votive candles around the vase, and you’ve created your very own Easter egg wonderland. (Shop the Easter tree look above at Pottery Barn.)
- Use color to create a “wow factor.” Instead of using traditional Easter pastels combined together, try using one color in various shades throughout your Easter décor. Try to focus on three shades of one hue. For example, you could have a midnight blue table runner with robin’s egg blue linen napkins, sky blue water glasses, and hyacinth blue hydrangeas to pack a colorfully layered table scape.
